I like K’naan, he’s fresh, tells a good story and represents East Africa strong. His blend of Hip Hop, poetry, acapella and African rhythms is unique. I’ve been banging out his last album for the last few months (yea I’m a little late) and am delighted to hear he’s got a new album on the way called Troubador, which is due to drop January 13th. Troubador will feature cameos from Mos Def, Chubb Rock, Damian Marley, and more. Here’s a video for a track called Somalia, it’s not his hottest track but its relevant still…

Aucklandites will be familiar with NZ’s best free gig listing website mukuna.co.nz, well the crew have recently brought their services to the capital so you never need be stuck for where to go on the warm welly nights.
Mukuna provide a thourough and unbiased gig listing service which is FREE for bands, promoters, and venues. They even have a content management system which is also FREE. A great tool!
Band/artists can submit a bio which can be used for gig listing info. Each listing has band and venue info with some youtube clips of artists and links to websites/myspace etc. so you can get a good feel if you’re looking for something new.
There’s a heap more going on there to, go and check it out.
