Got the opportunity for a sneak listen to Portishead’s third album titled ‘third’ (nice one).

It’s dark, broody & raw, words that are usually used when describing Portishead. Alas this album is quite different sounding to their first two albums, so much so that talk on the internet from some of their die hard fans is of shock that they didn’t produce something that followed the same formulas as Dummy and the self-titled Portishead.

For me, I almost wet my pants the first time I heard it. The first song ‘Silence’ made me put my head bang face on, straight to volume number 11 all the way through to the end of the album…

So many great tracks that will all grow on me at different stages but for now Machine Gun is definitely my favorite.

Forget that stupid ‘trip hop’ label/genre, listen to it with an open mind.
