Our friends Pat Shepherd and Josh Bahlman teamed up and created the Good Karma Project. Over the Xmas period they travelled to Thailand on the Burmese boarder and worked with refugee children teaching them art and photography. The school where they taught is on top of a rubbish dump. The children are expected to help find bits and bobs amongst the rubbish to help with their family livelihood. It’s a heartbreaking story, but Pat and Josh are shedding some light into their lives with the Good Karma Project.

Tomorrow their exhibition opens at Toi Pōneke Gallery, 61 Abel Smith St, Wellington and runs till the 23rd of April. The boys have got some amazing NZ artists to interpret the works of the children to be sold at an auction and to raise more funds for the Burmese refugee children. Featured artists include Misery, DRYPNZ, Mephisto Jones, TrustMe, DRYPNZ, Sarah Maxey, Andy Shaw, Flox and more.

The very handy Soundcloud platform has just turned one, seems like they’ve been around for ages. Anyway as part of a recent revamp they have given users two more player apps which are a timely addition to the basic player.

Patrick Shepherd from Exposure Lifestyles magazine along with Josh Bahlman have teamed up on an exciting project ‘The Good Karma Project‘ that sees two volunteers from NZ working with Burmese refugee children in Thailand, helping expose them to some artistic endeavours. Patrick will also feature the work of the children and artworks inspired by them in the next issue of Exposure Lifestyles. We can’t wait. David Lynch’s interview project is worth checking out, his team went out on a mammoth road trip accross the States with the mission of interviewing everyday people along the way, some of the interviews are quite beautiful, lots to catch up on, they’re up to episode 54!

Adbusters recently won a long standing legal battle with Canadian TV networks for the right to be able to advertise a message subversive to the consumerist norm. Hats off to the crew for their perseverance.

The folks over a babelgum are sharing the new gorrilaz documentary “bananaz” for one month only. Director Ceri Levy followed damon albarn and jamie hewlett for seven (!) years to make this doco. with appearances from dan the automator, dennis hopper, de la soul, and d12 (remember them?). i never really got into their music but seeing it context made me appreciate what they were trying to do artistically.

After the roaring success of Soundcloud.com, a wee little sister site has been launched that is simply dedicated to DJ mixes and Mixtapes. What a jolly good idea!

The admin staff at qcmixtapes.com have been browsing the soundcloud pages in pursuit of an eclectic range of DJ mixes, (you can also post your mixtapes in there submission box for them to check out too)

There is a whole bunch of style’s and genre’s to get yer groove on to and they even have a twitter and facbook application to get your mixtape action on the go. So it’s a big thumb’s up from me to them for making the day go more musically.. Thank you -QC- Proper onya!
